After a tough night with my sleeping pad deflating twice, Yellowstone at last! Traffic progressively increased as I approached West Yellowstone. After entering the park, traffic became unending. At least for this stretch, there was a narrow shoulder that gave me some buffer.




I faced serious headwinds heading south, which is going to be pattern going forward. I forgot to mention, but my knees started bothering me again after an impulsive saddle adjustment (a familiar story…). 

At Madison CG, I met Nick and Colleen (?) from Wellington, New Zealand. They’re on a send off tour of the National Parks before they head back to NZ, having lived in the US for about a year. We had great conversations over chips and 2 (!!) beers - my first beer donation of the tour. Thank you guys for the hospitality, I really enjoyed our time hanging out and I’ll be sure to find you in Wellington if/when I visit. Conversely, hit me up in Berkeley if you are ever in the Bay Area!

I also had a brief chat with some guys from the UK who are touring from Vancouver, BC to NYC. They seemed to be having a good time, and were planning on exploring Yellowstone some more. Yellowstone is definitely a hotbed for cycle tourists!
