Today was not a great day. I had crosswinds for 1/3, exceptionally strong headwinds for another 1/3, and finally tailwinds for the last 1/3. I ended up really needing that tailwind, as my right thigh gave out with about 25 miles to go. I suspected a strained muscle, in particular the sartorious musle. I was unable to put force through my right leg, and ended up relying mostly on my left leg for the rest of the ride. I was able to clip into my cleats and pull with my right leg slightly, which helped somewhat.
The sun sets on a large agricultural structure in Gordon. Probably one of the best photos I’ve taken I think, really happy with this one.
I booked a motel (Jefco Inn) in Gordon, which was sorely needed. It turned out to be a kind of quirky place, but very clean and well maintained. I paid about $80 for the night, which was a reasonable price. It also comes with a free cereal/bread breakfast in the morning. I had a big IPA at the local bar which lifted my spirits, and incidentally the motel owner poured my beer (though I didn’t know it at the time). These are the things that happen in small towns.
A nice IPA which certainly should help with my recovery.
